What Is an Expanded PTFE Gasket?

ePTFE gaskets combine the conformability of expanded PTFE with precision cutting to produce a gasket that fits your exact flange geometry.

Custom cut expanded PTFE gasket in round shape

Expanded PTFE (ePTFE) gaskets are cut from ePTFE sheet material to match your specific flange dimensions and geometry. Unlike molded or compression-molded gaskets, ePTFE cut gaskets require no tooling — making them ideal for prototypes, small batches, and non-standard flange sizes.

The ePTFE material itself provides the key advantage: it is soft, compressible, and highly conformable, meaning it forms a reliable seal even on slightly imperfect flange surfaces. The microporous fibrillated structure resists creep and cold flow under sustained bolt load — the seal remains stable without re-torquing.

Send us your flange dimensions, a drawing, or a physical sample, and we cut the gasket to fit. No mold cost, no tooling lead time, no minimum order quantity.

Why Choose ePTFE Cut Gaskets?

ePTFE cut gaskets vs. molded rubber or aramid fiber gaskets — the key advantages.

🔧 No Tooling Cost

Unlike injection-molded or compression-molded gaskets, ePTFE cut gaskets require no mold. This makes them cost-effective for prototypes, small batches, and non-standard sizes where tooling would be prohibitively expensive.

📐 Any Shape, Any Size

We cut to your drawing — not your drawing to our mold. Round, oval, rectangular, or completely irregular. Custom gaskets for non-standard equipment are our specialty.

🧪 Universal Chemical Resistance

ePTFE resists all common industrial chemicals across pH 0–14. No rubber swelling, no fiber degradation — just pure inert PTFE sealing performance in the harshest chemical environments.

🌡️ Extreme Temperature Range

From -260°C (cryogenic service) to +260°C (high-temperature steam and thermal oil). Suitable for liquid nitrogen, steam, and thermal cycling applications where rubber and fiber gaskets fail.

↩️ Zero Cold Flow / Creep

The expanded fibrillated structure eliminates cold flow under bolt load. The gasket stays in place and maintains its seal — no re-torquing, no squeeze-out, no leakage over time.

🍽️ FDA & USP Class VI Grades

FDA 21 CFR 177.1550 compliant grades for food and beverage. USP Class VI testing available for pharmaceutical and biotech applications.

❌ No Minimum Order

One gasket or 10,000 — the same pricing simplicity. Ideal for spare parts, maintenance repairs, prototype runs, and small-batch production.

📦 Long Shelf Life

ePTFE does not age, harden, or degrade in storage. Stock up on spare gaskets without worrying about shelf life — they perform when you need them.

Industry Applications

ePTFE cut gaskets are specified by engineers across chemical, pharmaceutical, food, and industrial manufacturing.

🧪 Chemical Processing

Handles aggressive acids, alkalis, and solvents in chemical storage, reactors, heat exchangers, and piping. The universal chemical resistance of ePTFE covers applications where other materials fail.

🍽️ Food & Beverage

FDA-compliant for food contact. Used in brewing, dairy, edible oil processing, and beverage production. Non-toxic, tasteless, and resistant to cleaning chemicals.

💊 Pharmaceutical

USP Class VI compliance for sterile API manufacturing and biotech processing. Clean, inert, and non-reactive — critical for pharmaceutical quality assurance.

⚙️ Pump & Valve

Reliable static seals for centrifugal pumps, diaphragm valves, and process valves. Conforms to slightly worn or imperfect flange faces without leaking.

⛽ Oil & Gas

Resistant to petroleum fluids, natural gas, and process chemicals in upstream and downstream oil and gas applications. Wide temperature range handles both cryogenic LNG and high-temperature process streams.

💨 Steam Systems

Rated to +260°C for saturated and superheated steam applications. Zero hydrolysis ensures long service life in steam condensate environments where organic gaskets degrade rapidly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from engineers and procurement teams about custom ePTFE gaskets.

Q: What information do you need to quote a custom ePTFE gasket?
Ideally: a PDF, DXF, or CAD drawing with dimensions, tolerance requirements, flange standard (ANSI/DIN/JIS), and pressure class. If you don't have a drawing, a sketch with key dimensions or a physical sample is also fine. We can reverse-engineer from a sample. Also tell us: required material grade (standard, FDA, or USP Class VI), quantity, and any application-specific requirements (temperature, pressure, chemical environment).
Q: What is the minimum order quantity?
There is no minimum order quantity. We cut single gaskets for prototypes, maintenance repairs, and spare parts, and we supply large batches for production runs — at the same straightforward pricing.
Q: What tolerances can you hold on cut gaskets?
Standard tolerances are ±0.5mm on dimensions up to 500mm, ±1.0mm on larger dimensions. Tighter tolerances (up to ±0.1mm) are available on request. Tell us your tolerance requirement when you send the drawing.
Q: How long does it take to produce a custom gasket?
For standard shapes and sizes, lead time is typically 3–5 working days from drawing approval. Complex custom shapes may take 5–10 working days. Express service is available for urgent requirements — contact us to confirm.
Q: Can you supply gaskets to match our existing flange dimensions?
Yes — send us your drawing, a sketch, or a physical sample, and we cut to match exactly. If you know the flange standard (e.g., ANSI B16.5 Class 150 RF DN50), we can look up the standard gasket dimensions and cut to those specifications.
Q: What is the difference between a cut gasket and a molded gasket?
Cut gaskets are sliced from sheet material — no mold is needed. Molded gaskets require a custom mold for each shape. Cut gaskets are ideal for small quantities, non-standard sizes, and prototypes because there is no mold cost or mold lead time. For very high volumes (thousands of identical gaskets), molded parts may offer a unit cost advantage.
Q: Can ePTFE gaskets be used on raised-face and flat-face flanges?
Yes. ePTFE cut gaskets work on both raised-face (RF) and flat-face (FF) flanges. For raised-face flanges, the gasket should be sized to the raised face diameter. For flat-face flanges, the gasket covers the full flange face. Tell us your flange type when requesting a quote.
Q: Do you offer spiral wound or Kammprofile gaskets?
We specialize in solid ePTFE cut gaskets. For spiral wound or Kammprofile (Camprofile) gaskets — which use a metal inner support structure — these require specialized manufacturing equipment. Contact us with your requirements and we will advise whether ePTFE cut gaskets are suitable for your application, or refer you to a specialist supplier if needed.
