Expanded PTFE Sheet

Expanded PTFE (ePTFE) is a microporous, highly compressible form of PTFE. It combines the outstanding chemical resistance of standard PTFE with a unique soft, flexible structure that conforms perfectly to irregular flange surfaces — sealing at very low bolt stress without creep or cold flow.

Why Expanded PTFE Sheet?

ePTFE sheet outperforms conventional gasket materials in the most demanding sealing applications.

⚙️ Universal Chemical Resistance

Withstands virtually all chemicals across the full pH range (0–14) — including acids, alkalis, solvents, and oxidizers. Only molten alkali metals and elemental fluorine can affect it.

🧊 Wide Temperature Window

Rated from -260°C (cryogenic / LN2 environments) to +260°C continuous service. Suitable for liquid nitrogen, steam, thermal oil, and high-temperature chemical processes.

🔒 Zero Cold Flow / Creep

The expanded microporous structure eliminates cold flow and creep under bolt load. Seals maintain integrity indefinitely without re-torquing — unlike conventional PTFE.

🏭 Instant Seal at Low Stress

Highly compressible at 63%+ compression ratio. Conforms to irregular, damaged, or warped flange surfaces even at low bolt stress — no compound mating required.

✅ No Cure / No Bake-Out

Ready to use straight from the sheet. No curing cycle, no bake-out procedure, no waiting. Reduces downtime and installation labor significantly.

🍽️ FDA & Food-Grade Ready

Complies with FDA 21 CFR 177.1550. Available in USP Class VI grades for food, pharmaceutical, and ultra-pure water applications. No contamination, no particles.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about expanded PTFE sheet selection, installation, and performance.

How does expanded PTFE sheet perform in steam applications compared to conventional gasket materials?
Expanded PTFE sheet is exceptionally well-suited for saturated and superheated steam service. Its microporous structure retains integrity at temperatures up to +260°C while remaining compressible enough to conform to steam flange surfaces under thermal cycling. Unlike compressed fiber gaskets (e.g., spiral wound or CAF), ePTFE does not require a compressible filler that can degrade in steam over time. It provides a zero-creep seal that holds under repeated thermal expansion and contraction cycles, reducing the risk of steam leaks in boiler feedwater, steam headers, and turbine gland sealing applications. Always verify flange rating and bolt load against your specific steam pressure.
Can expanded PTFE sheet be used as a flange gasket on equipment with irregular or slightly damaged sealing surfaces?
Yes — one of the key advantages of expanded PTFE sheet is its ability to seal damaged, warped, or irregular flange faces that would cause conventional gaskets to fail. With a compression ratio exceeding 63%, ePTFE conforms deeply into surface scratches, pits, and minor warpage without requiring precise flange preparation. However, for severely damaged surfaces (deep grooves, heavy corrosion, or warpage exceeding the gasket thickness), the flange should be resurfaced or replaced. ePTFE is not a substitute for proper flange maintenance — it is a superior gasket material for marginal conditions that standard gaskets cannot handle.
