Why PTFE Thread Seal Tape?

Professional-grade material trusted by engineers worldwide.

🔧 Universal Thread Sealing

Works on all standard pipe threads — NPT, BSP, BSPT, and metric threads. Prevents leaks in water, gas, oil, and steam lines.

🧪 Chemical Inertness

100% virgin PTFE is chemically inert across the full pH range (0–14). Resists virtually all industrial chemicals, solvents, and gases.

🌡️ Wide Temperature Range

Reliable sealing from cryogenic temperatures (-200°C) to +260°C. Ideal for both refrigeration and high-temperature steam applications.

💧 Water & Steam Resistant

Does not swell, soften, or degrade in water, steam, or condensate. Stable long-term seal for plumbing and process piping.

⚡ Quick & Easy Installation

Simply wrap clockwise around the thread — no cure time, no mixing, no special tools. Wrap 3–5 layers for standard threads.

📦 Multiple Sizes & Packaging

Available in standard rolls from 12m to 200m. Custom widths, lengths, and OEM packaging available for large orders.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from engineers and procurement teams about this material.

Q: What is PTFE thread seal tape used for?
PTFE thread seal tape (also known as plumber's tape or PTFE film tape) is used to seal the threads of pipe fittings and prevent leaks of water, air, gas, oil, and most chemicals. It is wrapped around the male threads before assembly and is the standard low-cost sealing method for NPT, BSP, BSPT, and metric pipe threads.
Q: Is PTFE thread seal tape the same as expanded PTFE tape?
No. PTFE thread seal tape is a thin, dense film of 100% virgin PTFE, 0.075-0.10 mm thick, designed to wrap tightly on pipe threads. Expanded PTFE tape is a thicker, microporous, compressible sealant strip used on flange faces. They look nothing alike and serve very different purposes — never substitute one for the other.
Q: What is the temperature range of PTFE thread seal tape?
Standard PTFE thread seal tape is rated for continuous service from -200 °C to +260 °C, covering cryogenic liquid service through to high-temperature steam lines.
Q: Is PTFE thread seal tape safe for potable water?
Yes. Virgin PTFE film is compliant with FDA 21 CFR 177.1550 and is widely accepted for cold and hot potable water service. Choose the white grade for general plumbing, the yellow grade for gas lines, and the pink grade for cleaner applications.
Q: How many wraps of thread seal tape should I use?
For NPT and BSPT tapered threads, 3 to 6 wraps in the direction of the thread spiral is typical. Over-wrapping can split the female thread or stress the fitting; under-wrapping will not form a seal at higher pressures.
Q: Can I use PTFE tape on plastic threads?
Use PTFE tape sparingly on plastic (PVC, CPVC, PP) threads, as over-application can crack the female fitting. For plastic-to-plastic joints, a paste sealant plus a few wraps is often a safer combination.
