Polytetrafluoroethylene or PTFE is a versatile polymer that has been in use since 1938. There are many PTFE applications in industrial and consumer applications.
The two main components of PTFE are carbon and fluorine. This combination allows PTFE to have high molecular weight and offers several advantages. For example, PTFE is water resistant and resistant to water.
PTFE is also resistant to friction with solids and has high heat resistance. This allows PTFE to be used as a gear, bearing and slide assembly. PTFE did not begin to degrade until it reached a temperature of 662 degrees Fahrenheit.
