Polytetrafluoroethylene or PTFE is a versatile polymer that has been in use since 1938. There are many PTFE applications in industrial and consumer applications.

The two main components of PTFE are carbon and fluorine. This combination allows PTFE to have high molecular weight and offers several advantages. For example, PTFE is water resistant and resistant to water.

PTFE is also resistant to friction with solids and has high heat resistance. This allows PTFE to be used as a gear, bearing and slide assembly. PTFE did not begin to degrade until it reached a temperature of 662 degrees Fahrenheit.

PTFE can take liquid or powder form. The material may be coated with PTFE and may be combined with other liquid or solid ingredients to reinforce them. Powder form for pyrotechnics and bait. PTFE powder is also used as an igniter for solid fuel rocket propellants used in the aerospace industry.

The non-sticking properties of PTFE are so effective that they can not adhere to the gecko. Therefore, PTFE can be used on the building surface to prevent insects from climbing the wall.

The non-stick properties of PTFE are also used by the dental industry for fillers to prevent them from adhering to adjacent teeth.

PTFE is also used in the manufacture of containers and pipes because of its corrosion resistance and non-reactivity. This is useful for handling laboratories that require high corrosive chemicals to be placed in glass containers. In addition, the fluorocarbon bond increases the tensile strength of PTFE.

PTFE can also be used as a mechanical lubricant. When used in this way, PTFE can reduce friction, energy consumption and equipment wear. One example is the lubricant used in the bicycle chain.

Due to its strength and heat resistance, PTFE is also used to make gaskets. It is also used as a pipe seal tape.

PTFE also has good electrical insulation properties and is therefore used for insulated cables and connector assemblies. Making it ideal for connecting lines, coaxial cables and printed circuit boards.
